The Provincial Government of Albay (PGA) through the Provincial Social Welfare & Development Office (PSWDO) in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) spearheaded the distribution of vegetable seeds and gardening tools, Nuyda Park, Brgy. 2, Poblacion, Camalig, Albay.

Catering selected sectors including farmers, PWDs, and 4H Club Gardens under the fifty (50) barangays in the town, this intervention is in line with PGA’s initiative in implementing sustainable agriculture strategies for farmers and PWDs amid the impacts of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Last September 2020, PGA also distributed farm machineries and equipment to Camalig’s farmers – the 4H Club of Brgy. Sua received garden tools and seeds, Quituinday Farmers Association received assorted vegetable seeds, Rose Nopia of Brgy. Sua received mallard ducks and one (1) head caraheifer, and 3 livestock raisers from Brgy. Sua, Comun, and Calabidongan received one (1) head heifer each.

In October also last year, PGA distributed food packs to PWDs as reward for their active participation in maintaining communal and backyard gardens under the Albay Based Food Production Program (AFBFPP) – an intervention geared to establish vegetable gardens as one measure in promoting food availability and security at the community level.

Valuing the importance of food especially during this time of crisis, these efforts also forms part of PGA and LGU-Camalig’s advocacy in promoting farm productivity which will redound to improved earning capabilities and food on the table for every family.
