To further improve and sustain the children-centric initiatives of LGU-Camalig, the Department of the Interior & Local Government (DILG) and the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) led a basic orientation of child rights and responsibility, MDRRMC Operations & Training Center, 2nd flr., Mytalic Bldg., Camalig Municipal Hall, Brgy. 2, Poblacion, Camalig, Albay.
Said meeting seeks to address issues and formulate plans, programs, and other interventions relevant to the needs of one of the vulnerable sectors in the town.
The DILG tackled Memorandum Circular No. 2021-039 – an order issued purposely to provide LGUs and other concerned agencies with consolidated guidelines regarding the establishment and operation of LCPCs with the objective of ensuring that the councils are functional, relevant, and effective in promoting children’s rights and welfare.
Recognizing the crucial role of the barangays in ensuring that said objectives are met, the LCPC highlighted the creation of Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children (BCPCs) which are expected to function as augmentation to the LCPC’s advocacy activities.
The BCPCs are set to establish and maintain children database, prepare annual work and financial plans, implement and document child-friendly programs, develop related information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, and regularly coordinate other efforts with higher agencies specifically LGU-Camalig and the LCPC.
As part of its campaign in fostering a “leveled-up” Camalig, LCPC initiatives complement one of the mandates under the 12-point Executive Agenda – responsive and urgent delivery of social welfare services especially for children.
The LCPC is scheduled to convene again for its 3rd quarterly meeting to relay further accomplishments and formulate additional intervention priorities.
