LGU-Camalig together with the Department of Environment & Natural Resources – Mines & Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB), Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), and the Provincial Environment & Natural Resources Office (PENRO), led an ocular inspection of the proposed alternate road traversing quarry areas at Brgy. Tumpa to Brgy. Maninila.
The activity was carried out to determine various conditions and formulate similar projects to improve said subject areas in line with the PEO’s objective in ensuring convenience and safety for the benefit of the general public.
Complementing the initiatives of the DENR-MGB, PEO, and PENRO regarding public safety and environmental protection, LGU-Camalig created the Camalig Task Force Quarry (CTFQ) last February 19, 2021 purposely to conduct quarry-related inspections, monitor all quarrying activities in the municipality, study short and long-term effects of quarrying on the flow and supply of water in the river systems, secure the structural integrity of affected dikes, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure, promote effective and maximum implementation of both local and national environmental laws on the extraction of sand, gravel, and other mineral resources, and recommend the filing of appropriate cases against violators before the PENRO for culpable violation of Provincial Ordinance No. 003-2016.
In pursuit of fostering a “leveled-up” municipality, the CTFQ regularly coordinates with concerned departments and stakeholders to further strengthen the local government’s development thrusts with the end view of promoting environmental protection and revenue generation which will redound to better delivery of basic services for the Camaligueños.
