Various barangays in Camalig, Albay received awards from the 2D Congressional District Office for the conduct of barangay gardening under the Edible Landscaping sa Barangay Project (ELBP), Salugan covered court, Brgy. Salugan, Camalig, Albay.
 
Brgy. Bariw was hailed champion in the ELBP Season 1, bagging awards and recognitions including, the “Creativity, Uniqueness, and Resiliency Award”, “Beautifully Nourished Crops (kangkong)”, and “Highest % Submitted Accomplishment Report”, besting Brgy. Namantao, Daraga (1st Runner Up), Brgy. Salvacion, Daraga (2nd Runner Up), and Brgy. Ilawod West, Legazpi City (3rd Runner Up).
 
Brgy. 2 and 3, Poblacion, Comun, Cotmon, Binitayan, Miti, Quinuartilan, and other participating barangays in the town also received minor awards.
 
Launched through the initiative of 2nd District Representative, Congressman, Hon. Joey Sarte Salceda, the ELBP aims to muster the capacity of barangays in implementing agricultural practices through edible landscaping with the end goal of promoting productivity and achieving food security at the household level.
 
The project further seeks to encourage the community to plant vegetables as greening efforts not only contribute to practical homestead food production but also simultaneously beautifies designated areas.
 
The validation and final assessment of ELBP gardens for its first season initially started last June 9, 2021 – the project covers all barangays of municipalities under the 2nd district of the province of Albay.
 
LGU-Camalig likewise extends its gratitude to the 2D Congressional District Office for said initiative as the ELBP has proven its role in attaining communal, economic, and environmental benefits through the active involvement of residents in community-centric interventions which the government deems crucial especially amid the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
