As Mayon continuously threatens Camalig and other neighboring towns and cities, LGU-Camalig has been active in the preparation for a possible volcanic eruption.
Since the raising of the volcano’s alert level from 1 to 2 initially pronounced by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology & Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the local government revisited the inventory of its resources including evacuation facilities.
One of the most evac-capable facilities is the Bungkaras Evacuation Center located in Brgy. Bongabong which features a medical clinic, ample parking spaces, laundry and drying area, MRF, administrative office, play area with breastfeeding room, male and female toilet and bath facility with PWD provision, and can accommodate 530 individuals or 106 families.
LGU-Camalig also plans to implement a cluster-based response by mustering the workforce of almost all offices and agencies to cover areas in social welfare, peace and order, health and nutrition, disaster management, and public awareness.
To date, there is no evacuation order in Camalig, Albay – the local government eyes to execute evacuation for Mayon unit barangays if volcano alert status be raised to level 3.
