In response to the extreme heat currently affecting Camalig, Albay and other areas, members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (MDRRMC) Health Cluster convene to formulate appropriate protocols to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon.

The local government is compelled to take a proactive and coordinated approach in coming up with interventions and preparatory measures to combat the risks posed by El Niño on health, agriculture, water supply, and education sectors.

The team focused on assessing the inventory of active water sources, number of rooms with good ventilation, situation of agricultural land and products, and the number of reported water-borne diseases in town, in order to identify key strategies in addressing El Niño-related incidents.

So far, Camalig, Albay has not yet been observed to be in dry condition as per the record acquired by MDRRMO’s close monitoring, yet contingency plan is in the works if worst case scenario happens.
