The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) in collaboration with the Municipal Health Office (MHO) successfully conducted a 2-day Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Health training at the Camalig Command Center (CCC), Brgy. Salugan, Camalig, Albay today, with the participation of Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) across Camalig.
Led by MDRRMO Head, Mr. Rommel V. Negrete, Jr. PhD., JD, D Hum, MHO Head, Ms. Jennifer N. Lapus, MD, MSPH, Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator (MNPC) Mr. Kenneth M. Nolasco, and Ms. Christie Mae M. Mendiola, Nurse II, the activity covered all-inclusive health, nutrition, and disaster topics to equip the participants essential skills and knowledge when handling disaster and health related situations.
The topics included health governance, DRR in health plans and policies, institutionalizing health record system, nutrition in emergency, nutrition cluster coordination, early warning system for all hazards, standard operating procedures for all hazards and emergency operations center (EOC) alert level system, and the concepts and principles in DRRM.
As one of the activities approved by the Municipal DRRM Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Council (MDRRM-CCAMC) and duly adopted by the Sangguniang Bayan (SB), the activity is expected to strengthen DRR in health public service delivery in all barangays specifically during the occurrence of calamities and disasters as mandatory required under R.A. 10121 or the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.”
This training forms part of Camalig’s commitment to disaster preparedness and community resilience. The MDRRMO’s recent success in passing the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) National Validation further highlights the municipality’s dedication to providing quality and participatory public services.
