The Barangay Tanod sa Turismo Training Program (BTTTP) concludes, as 40 Brgy. Tanods participants, now dubbed “Barangay Tourist Police” learned new capacities. The 4-day training was held at the Ma Nel’s Hotel, Brgy. Ilawod, Camalig, Albay.
Notable participants included Camalig Mayor Hon. Carlos“Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo Jr., Assistant Regional Director Maria Salee Mora, and resource persons, Local Tourism Council (LTC) President Felipe Noe Napa Jr., LTC Vice-president Nenibeth Marino, LTC Treasurer, Daisy Navia, Barangay Kagawad Mechille Nimo, Domingo Morallos, Patrick Napa, Lito M. Nidea, and Punong Barangay Carlo Morada and Willy Gomez, and Tourist Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection (TopCop) PMSg Erwin Baldres.
Discussions delved on a comprehensive curriculum, including the overview of global and Philippine tourism industry, local tourism products and activities, basic principles of tourist safety, human rights, barangay first responder, customized first aid based on location, roles of Tanod in crisis management/fire safety awareness, eco-tourism in the region, and gender sensitive, child friendly and human rights approach.
The participants further raised concerns including challenges encountered in their respective barangay, opting resource persons and Mayor Caloy to provide comprehensive solutions.
In his message, Mayor Caloy highlighted the importance of the said event in developing local tourism to enhance income generation from tourist attractions saying, “Sana ma-implement ta ning tama yadi, ta pag marayun po ang proseso ta sa turismo, mas dakul pa ang adun satun, mas dakul ang magiging income dangan share san barangay. Ingwaun ta pa na mapadakul ang turista.” he said.
