In line with the local government’s efforts to address growing concerns about digital addiction among children, the Camalig Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) and the Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Their Children (LCAT-VAWC) organized an event titled “Connected or Addicted: Helping Interventions for Kids’ Digital Addiction” today, July 29, 2025. The event was held at the Camalig South Central School (CSCS) in Brgy. Ilawod.
Attended by Grade 4 to 6 learners, their parents, and teachers, the event aimed to address the alarming increase in the time children spend glued to smartphone or tablet screens, which often negatively impacts their health, productivity, and relationships.
Through engaging talks and group activities, participants explored ways to identify signs of digital dependence and strategies to avoid dependency. Speakers emphasized the importance of setting boundaries on screen time, encouraging outdoor play, and fostering real-life connections and experiences as ways to empower children to thrive both online and offline.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the LGU-Camalig, through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), to promote digital wellness among children, with the end foal of fostering meaningful changes in the digital habits of youth at home and in their communities.
