As a recognition for its outstanding efforts to provide social welfare and development services to the most vulnerable sectors, LGU-Camalig was granted the Vulcan Award, the highest award conferred by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office V.

Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) Head, Ms. Edlyn Noble, RSW, presented the award during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, highlighting that the award was a proof of the collective efforts made by the Municipality Council for the Protection of Children (MCPC) and the rest towards reaping noteworthy results.

Camalig was recognized by the Regional Juvenile and Welfare Committee of the DSWD for its role as the duty-bearer in the full implementation of the Comprehensive Barangay Juvenile Intervention Program (CBJIP), which seeks to foster the rights and welfare of the children in conflict with the law (CICL) and the children at risk and their families.

The given award is also testament to Mayor Carlos “Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo Jr.’s advocacy for promoting children’s welfare by adopting programs and policies designed to provide healthy and safe environments for the younger members of the community.

Said recognition was given during the 73rd Founding Anniversary celebration of the DSWD on February 23, 2024, with the theme “DSWD Angels in Red Vests: Empathy in Action, Integrity in Service, Unity in Community,” held at the Proxy Hotel, Legazpi City.
