Youths from across town dominated the recently concluded Camalig Urban Fire Olympics 2024: Youth Edition organized by the Bureau of Fire Protection-Camalig Fire Station in observance of Fire Prevention Month with the theme “Sa pag-iwas sa sunog, hindi ka nag-iisa.”
Barangays of Tinago, Salugan, 1, 2, and 3 took part in the competition and showed off their skills and competencies in completing the obstacle course relay, rescue and transfer relay, flammable liquid fire extinguishment, bucket relay, hose on shoulder relay, and other firefighting measures, which highlights the importance of engaging the youth in ensuring a fire safe and disaster resilient community.
“Your dedication to conduct activities like this further shapes a safer environment for us, and most importantly, promotes and stimulates productivity among our youth… Bukon lang po yadi kompetisyon. This is also a platform for us to be active, sporty, and disciplined” said Municipal and Provincial SK Federation President, Hon. Carlos Matthew Gamboa, referring to BFP’s commitment to developing the youths as responsible citizens and agents of change in the community.
With a winning time of 10 minutes and 21 seconds, Barangay 2 was hailed as the champion with a Php10,000 cash prize, Brgy. 1 was awarded as the 1st runner-up with Php7, 000, followed by Brgy. 3 going home with Php5,000. A consulation prize of Php2,000 was also given to other participating teams.
This activity accentuated the strong advocacy of the Camalig BFP led by Officer-in-Charge SF04 Warren Orendain and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Mr. Rommel Negrete Jr., PhD, JD, D.Hum, as partners in optimizing fire protection approaches and disaster response efforts in the municipality, as well as to heighten their safety from the harm prompted by these devastated situations.
