A meeting was held at the Mayor’s Office today to discuss the construction of the Camalig Polytechnic College (CPC), the would-be first tertiary institution in the municipality.
The meeting was attended by Camalig Mayor Hon. Carlos “Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo, Jr., Municipal Councilor Hon. Abegail Go, Municipal Planning & Development Coordinator (MPDC) Josephine Abansi, Local Youth Development Officer (LYDO) Anne Mostaza, representatives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Municipal Accountant Jhea M. Arranzado, CPA, Municipal Treasurer Corazon Marilla, Budget Officer Benjamin Nuyda, and Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person Chyrel San Andres.
The meeting focused on outlining the initial plan, including identifying necessary fees, selecting a head for the college, and establishing a five-year budget. Discussions also covered faculty assembly, manual and handbook development, hiring processes, and the crucial approval process by the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) ng Camalig.
Mayor Caloy expressed strong support for the project, stating, “Dapat ganyan ang public service. Kayang kaya ito. Ready na tayo. Ituloy na natin ito. Huwag na natin ihinto kasi kawawa naman ang mga batang gusto mag-college pero hindi nakakapag-aral.”, highlighting the importance of providing accessible education to all residents, especially those who may not have the opportunity to pursue higher education elsewhere.
The team agreed to meet every two weeks to monitor the project’s progress. Once established, the CPC will offer polytechnic courses, potentially focusing on civil technology, engineering, and technical vocational training, such as tile setting, through TESDA certification.
