In a bid to further empower and protect children, the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) and Local Committees on Anti-Trafficking-Violence Against Women and their Children (LCAT-VAWC), successfully organized a 2-day conference to update the town’s Local Code for Children (LCC) on Monday, November 11, 2024.
 
The conference, held at the Soccoro’s Lakeside Restaurant and Grill, Brgy. Sumlang, Camalig, featured interactive discussions and workshops led by Ms. Ana Marie Binamira-Telimban, Regional Coordinator of Sub Committee for the Welfare of Children and Atty. Shella L. Abellano, Associate City Prosecutor of the Office of the Prosecutor of Albay.
 
Topics covered included the Salient Features of Child-Focused Laws, Local Code for Children, Roles of the Sangguniang Bayan in Mainstreaming Child Rights, Local Legislation Process, and the Situationer on Children and Inventory of Existing Local Policies and Innovation for Children in Camalig.
The conference was also graced by Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Maria Ahrdail “Ding” Baldo, Municipal Councilor Hon. Purisima “Ching” Nocedo, and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation Vice President Hon. Roger Gnilo.
 
In her message, Vice Mayor Ding expressed her strong advocacy for the protection of children and their rights, saying, “Dapat maprevent natin ang abuse. Dapat magkaroon tayo ng safe space para sa mga bata kasi bawat bata mahalaga. Kaya magtarabangan kita na ma-update ang satun na Local Code for Children.”
 
The conference culminated in a set of workshop that included the Policy Gap Analysis, Developing the LCC, and Action Planning.
