In a historic moment for the municipality of Camalig, Albay, LGU-Camalig has finally been awarded the coveted Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) at the Tent City, Manila Hotel, Metro Manila. In addition to the SGLG award, LGU-Camalig also received a cheque for ₱1,153,000.

This marks the first time the municipality has received the award, after years of dedicated work towards achieving the highest standards of good governance. Notably, Camalig is one of only three municipalities in the entire province of Albay to receive this prestigious award, alongside Daraga and Polangui.

The award was received by Camalig Mayor Hon. CarlosCaloy” Irwin G. Baldo, Jr., who was accompanied by a delegation composed of LGU-Camalig officials, department heads, functionaries, and representatives from partner agencies.

Camalig’s journey to the SGLG award began with its “clean passer” status in the initial stages of the SGLG assessment. The municipality has been working diligently for years to meet the stringent requirements of the national validation process, which ultimately determined its eligibility for the award.

The SGLG award, presented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), recognizes local government units that demonstrate excellence in various areas, including financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and responsiveness, sustainable education, business-friendliness and competitiveness, safety and peace and order, environmental services, tourism, heritage development, culture and arts, and youth development. Camalig’s success in achieving this award is a testament to the unwavering commitment of its officials, employees, and residents towards building a prosperous and sustainable community.

The SGLG award is not only a source of pride for the municipality but also brings with it the opportunity for increased support from the national government. This will be instrumental in further enhancing Camalig’s development initiatives and improving the lives of the Camaligueños.

In a statement, Baldo emphasized that this achievement is a result of the collective efforts of his delegation and the community. He dedicated this triumph primarily to the residents of Camalig, saying, “Ang parangal na yadi, produkto nin paghingoa, pagsisikap, dedikasyon, kina pagkakausad san saton na mga opisyal, empleyado, kina komunidad. It is true that reaching a team’s goal is never easy. It’s a struggle that requires dedication, unity, and the ability to endure difficult times. An trayumpong yadi, pigaalay mi sa ‘Mal na Diyos sa padagos na guiya, kina sa ubos na Camaligueño — an samon na inspirasyon. This award is, and always will be, for you.”
